SIMPLE BLUEPRINT READING

Definition of blueprints and blueprint reading

Blueprints (prints) are copies of building plan, mechanical or other types of technical drawings. Blueprint drawings—as applied to the building-construction industry—are generally used to show how a building, object, or system is to be constructed, implemented, modified, or repaired. The term blueprint reading means interpreting ideas expressed by others on drawings, whether or not the drawings are actually blueprints.

Importance of Blueprints

1. Drawing or sketching is the universal language used by engineers, technicians, and skilled craftsmen.
2. Drawings are used to convey all the necessary information to the person who will make or assemble the object in the drawing.
3. Blueprints show the construction details of parts, machines, ships, aircraft, buildings, bridges, roads, and so forth.
